Bloomington, Ill. – Accomplished country icon, Sara Evans, announced today that she will perform live in “Skating for Life Benefitting Susan G. Komen for the Cure® Starring Sara Evans” a special Disson Skating music and skating production. She will be joined by Olympic, World and National figure skating champions in this one-time only event to help fight breast cancer. The cast includes Olympic Silver medalist Sasha Cohen, three-time U.S. National champion Johnny Weir, U.S. National champion Rudy Galindo and many more. Olympic champion and breast cancer survivor, Peggy Fleming will host the show. The live show is set for October 15, 2008 at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum at 7:30pm and will be televised nationwide on NBC from 4:00 – 6:00pm EST on October 25, 2008.
Evans is recognized as one of the most successful artists of her generation with accolades including Academy of Country Music’s Female Vocalist of the Year and the Country Music Association’s Video of the Year for “Born to Fly”. In 2006, she was named Female Vocalist of the Year in the R&R Reader’s Poll and has been celebrated as one of People magazine’s “50 Most Beautiful People.” Evans has many #1 hits including “Born to Fly,” “No Place That Far,” “Suds In The Bucket” and “A Real Fine Place to Start.” Evans has released five albums and of them “No Place That Far” has been certified gold, 2001’s “Born to Fly” is double platinum and 2003’s “Restless” and 2005’s “Real Fine Place” are both platinum.
Evans will lend the magic of her voice as top figure skaters grace the ice with rhythm, skill and athleticism. According to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure® Web site, 182,460 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed in 2008. The disease can strike anyone and the precise causes of breast cancer are unknown. Each figure skater in “Skating for Life Benefitting Susan G. Komen for the Cure® Starring Sara Evans” event has experienced breast cancer personally through family members who have battled the disease and are excited to participate in this memorable benefit for an important cause.
